This novel Bariatric procedure has been developed by Dr Rutledge. A long, narrow tube of the stomach is created by staplers and this tube is then joined to a loop of intestine bypassing around 150-200 cm of its initial portion.
It differs from the classical gastric bypass in having a lengthy pouch and just a single anastomosis which makes the procedure fast and technically simpler to perform. It primarily works by causing malabsorption of the ingested food and a small amount of restriction.
It has yielded results comparable to the classic bypass in recent studies and is being accepted worldwide as an effective tool for treatment of morbid obesity.
